Andrea graduated in psychology and followed it up with a specialization in gerontology in Brazil, her home country. She moved to Singapore 12 years ago and continued to invest in her academic development, obtaining a professional diploma in Behaviour Psychology from NUS and a Masters degree in Developmental Psychology from NIE/NTU. She is also certified in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and she is a member of the Singapore Psychological Society (SPS).
She has worked with children, teenagers, adults, and the elderly, all with different demands and needs, and in varied settings. As a psycho-gerontologist, she conducted group therapy sessions in a university as well as a private setting in Brazil. She also worked as a school counsellor for a pre-school. Whilst in Singapore, she has volunteered for a hospice, taught Portuguese in a language centre, and has been offering psychotherapy specially to the Brazilian community.
Having worked in Brazil and in Singapore and with people from all over the world, she has a good understanding of different cultures as well as the role they play in the development of one's personality. She believes that every person is unique and that culture, biological factors as well as an individual’s singular history are crucial in helping to understand a person.
Andrea offers a non-judgmental and empathic atmosphere in her sessions and bases her work on the Contextual Behavioural Therapies such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), Behaviourism, RFT (Relational Frame Theory) and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy).
