Shanti is a Registered Counsellor with the SAC, with over 10 years of experience working with young adults, individuals, couples and families in multi-cultural settings.

Prior to joining SACAC Counselling’s team, Shanti was the Associate Dean (Education) with James Cook University, Singapore. Her role involved teaching for the Master’s program in Counselling, and training and mentoring Counselling interns. She continues to teach as an Adjunct Lecturer. She has also worked in Voluntary Welfare Organizations, Family Service Centres, as well as her own private practice, and has also provided counselling support to students of an international university in Singapore.

Her interests and experience lie in the areas of parenting, relationships, marriage, cultural adjustment, grief (loss and trauma) to name a few. While working with couples, she explores individual differences (upbringing, financial matters, parenting styles, etc.) to help set common goals on key issues, improve communication and re-connection. Where appropriate, she also helps with transition after separation.

Shanti holds a Master’s Degree in Guidance & Counselling (James Cook University, Singapore, 2005), and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She is a Certified Reality Therapist (William Glasser Institute, Singapore) and has completed Level 2 certification in Satir’s Systemic Family Therapy. The quote, ‘Peace within, peace between and peace among’ by Virginia Satir, resonates with Shanti. Her therapeutic approach is Systemic but also incorporates techniques from modalities such as Mindfulness, CBT and CTRT. She sees her role in the counselling process as that of a guide, to help clients maintain a balance, create meaningful connections with the people around them, and regain a sense of well-being in their social, emotional and professional selves.

As a global nomad, Shanti has lived in several cities in India, Eastern Europe and Singapore. This multi-cultural exposure has equipped Shanti to understand and relate with empathy to the challenges of living abroad. Shanti is fluent in English, Hindi and Telugu.
